Thailand covers an extensive area of
about 513,000 sq.km. in the middle of the Southeast Asian mainland, with
very rich and diversified vegetation of about 15,000 plant spectes,
ranging from the high mountains in the northwestern hill tracts along
the Tanasserim Range to the hill plateau of the northeastern region,
through the Central Plain into the eastern corner adjacent to Kampuchea
; and into the peninsular region south of the lsthmus of Kra to the
Malaysian border.
It is, therefore, not possible to present all of this botanical
diversity, and only a handful, which are deemed to be of delightful
attraction, are included here. The country has a great diversity of
folwering plants, coverting a large area, from 96°-105° 5´ E and 6°-16°
5´ N; the vegetation is thus varied and can be classified into two main
forest types: evergreen and deciduous |
